Our Hearts Burned Within Us

good morning everyone welcome to the district my name is BL one of the pastors here and it is Joy worship Jesus this mornings to District rest of us let's go and grab our Bibles we're going to open them up to Luke 24 Luke chapter 24 when our final chapter in our series The Book of Luke and we are down to our final two in this two and a half year series that we have been in but it's um going to be a good one today next week as well as we close it out just a good ending for um for Luke but here's my main

goal for this morning I want you to see that following Jesus produces a white hot passion to know him and to make him know like that's what I want you to see by the end of this sermon is that following Jesus produces a white hot passion to know him and to make him known all right and you're going to see that today with the story of two Disciples of Jesus uh these are not disciples that are numbered among the 12 but these are disciples that are of the 120 disciples at the Ascension of Jesus they're still a part of the the inward group that get

to witness his resurrection but two of these disciples they find their way on the day of the Resurrection heading to a village called emus and so they're they're doing a little Jesus 10K if you will and so lots of churches have kind of jumped on this bandwagon of of the road to AAS being like the walk the run and they do a 10K because it's about seven miles away from Jerusalem so what we're going to do is we're going to walk through the passage it's Luke 24 13-35 as we walk through it I'm going to explain it as we go and then I'm going to

provide you some application at the end in regards to to what we see in the scriptures here and so starting off in Luke 24 looking at verse 13 says that very day two of them were going to a village named emus about seven miles from Jerusalem all right those your 10 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened all right so real quick what we're looking at here is it says on that very day all right that's still referencing the day of Jesus's resurrection all right so that's the day we're we're talking about this would be actually following the

Sabbath day which is why one of the reasons that the Sabbath from church history was shifted from Saturday to Sunday was because in the resurrection of Jesus we actually find our true rest and so they shifted the Gathering at the temple and the synagogues on Saturdays to now moving to actually engaging the corporate Gathering of the body of Christ on Sunday morning was because that was the day that Jesus rose so if you ever if you never knew why why do we do church on Sunday mornings it was because in their calendar and on their day that Jesus rose would be considered the first day

of the week which is Sunday for us that's why we do church at this hour is because it in of itself is a reminder this is when Jesus rot all right that's why the um Conant every day is Easter you know or every Sunday is Easter mentality it's because it's the day of the RO but anyways on that day they're making this journey to a village named emus and they're talking about all these things that have happened now what do we mean by all these things we're going to talk a little bit about that but if you remember in the context of what's going on

in this weekend it's Passover all right so it's it's the Super Bowl for the Jews this is the biggest event that they observe every single Year everyone who anybody is in Jerusalem so they are talking about uh the triumphal entry that they witnessed with Jesus a week earlier they're talking about Jesus coming in and overturning the tables in the temple they're talking about the arrest of Jesus they're talking about the trial they're talking about the torture the crucifixion the death the bual all of those things were public in what they just experienced in the last week and so on this journey that's what they're talking

about that's the Talk of the Town all right and and everybody's talking about this I in no way don't let this be like a sound B that you like cut out and be like he said this um I'm not comparing Trump to Jesus okay don't hear me saying that but the level of everybody talking about what just happened would be like if on Election night a couple weeks ago instead electing him as president they put him on death row and murdered him like that's the level of everyone knowing what just went down in Jerusalem is that level of news media basically so let's keep reading

so I can show you that specifically verse 15 while they were talking and discussing together Jesus himself Drew near and went with them but their eyes were kept from recognizing him all right so you you heard of the Incarnation of Jesus um but let me introduce you to Ino Jesus right like this is this is what we're looking at and in some way I just have to believe here that Jesus is having some fun all right um because of what he just went through two days earlier I think he deserves to have a little bit of fun all right and so he's showing up he's

he's ring on but as he starts walking with them he's like I'm not let them recognize me all right I'm dropping in I'm gonna walk with them almost like Superman thing like maybe put some glasses on like have no idea who this man is don't even recognize them so maybe he's just playing with them a little bit here I just like to believe that um but anyway they have no idea who he is so he sneaks up e drops on them and then asks them this question verse 17 what's this conversation that you're holding with each other as you walk basically what are you guys

talking about and they stood still looking sad then one of them named Copus answered them are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days which again proves the point that everybody's talking about Jesus everybody's talking about what just went down to the point where they're able to say to him where you been like youve been hiding under a rock like how do you not know what just happened and what just transpired in Jerusalem and so anyway they continue on asking this question and here's the reality they think everyone knows what's going on but what's

actually happening with Jesus is the complete opposite nobody knows really what is going on except for Jesus Jesus knows the true news of the day and so instead of what Jerusalem daily or Bethlehem star is putting out to did there like they they are reporting news that's not the True News of the moment and so Jesus kind of plays with that a little bit he knows what they're talking about which is news but it's not the good news and so he says to them in verse 19 what things are people talking about what is the Talk of the Town what are they saying and so

they respond to him and they say concerning Jesus of Nazareth that's who we're talking about he was a man who was a prophet who was mighty indeed and word before God and all the people so they're saying this Jesus that everyone's talking about has proven that he's better than everybody that he's Mighty in both what he said with authority and also what he did in the acts that he committed and it was all before God God and the people like everyone witnessed it and saw it but then our chief priests and rulers they delivered him up to be condemned to death and crucified him so

it wasn't just enough that he was condemned to death but then they crucified him like crucifixion again as we talked about the last few weeks is not just the type of punishment or death penalty that everyone got it was the death penalty that the worst got like the worst worst of the worst of criminals would get it so much so that even in Jewish Society crucifixion was looked at so um deplorable that they would not even utter the words crucifixion in high Jewish Society but anyway they were saying not only they condemn him to death but they even condemn him to crucifixion but we had

hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel again this is back to why they are looking sad in this moment we hoped he was going to be the one to redeem Israel and besides all this it's now the third day since these things happened he's been dead for three days moreover this is crazy some of our women amazed us they were at the tomb early in the morning and when they did not find his body they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels who said that he was aive can you believe that and some of us those who were

with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said but him Jesus they did not see they did not see and so therefore technically they didn't believe the women's account of seeing a vision from the Angels so that's what these disciples are chewing on that's what they're talking about on this journey and they're explaining to Jesus honestly it sounds a lot like how I talk about the C that start every NFL season know I'm just going to keep bringing it up until they win the Super Bowl but at the beginning of every season My Hope Is high this is our

season we've done you know I mean this wasn't a good off season but um usually we pulled in the players that we need there's a lot of hype around it everyone's talking about it Power Rankings are out this is our year and then the chief chief priests and the rulers of the NFL crucify them to death and then I go on um yes than um but honestly like that's how I feel like they're talking about this man Jesus was showing up on the scene all the promises seemed like they were coming around this guy everyone was excited about him like we had the Triumph entry

we threw a huge party he messed some things up in the temple like we really thought this was going to be Val but he's been dead for three days for three days he's been dead that's where they're at right now and then Jesus responds to them with a bit of a re a bit of a reuke he says to them oh foolish ones and slow apart to believe all that the prophets have spoken the thing about scripture is that you can read scripture and you can even understand it but sometimes you cannot read the tong of scripture so when Jesus says ohol on I don't

know if Jesus is saying like oh foolish ones and like you idiots like what are you doing like what are you thinking or I don't know if his Tong is like more sarcastic like he foolish ones or if his tone is like a southern old lady who's like fles your heart which is like a version of cussing you out in a nice way um part of me likes to land in that category just because he does say you're slow apart um kind of in a way of like how a southern old lady would say it but here's the thing is he does rebuke them because

Jesus is pointing out the fact that they already have access to know all of the knowledge they need to see and believe what God is doing behind the scenes in the death burial and resurrection of Jesus you see in the ministry of Jesus for the past three years he's been training the disciples to be prepared for exactly what just went down to believe all that the prophets have spoken literally in 8 Luke 9 L 18 he's already told them hey just so you know when we get to Jerusalem they're going to deliver me up I'm going to be arrested they're going to kill me um

I have to suffer these things be buried and on the third day I'm going to rise from the grave like he's told the disciples this multiple times and it's like the disciples heard it and then just was like we don't know time and then they move on to like all who's going to be the greatest Among Us and so forth like they're they're really not focused on what is actually going on but what has been said has been heard but not actually understood which is why I found it funny last week when the women were standing in the empty tomb and the angels are like

what are you doing here why are you searching for the living among the dead like as if the Angels assumed that the people should know what to hey we know Jesus already taught you that he's going to die and that he's going to be dead for three days and on the third day he's going to rise so that what you what I think what the Angels when they showed up on the scene what they expected was all of the disciples there so that when the tomb was rolled away they're all looking in praising God this is what he told us this is what we should

have been waiting for but instead the Angels show up and they're like it's like that that real looking around where's were all the disciples they knew theyve heard they've been taught but they missed it they missed the point and so Jesus then because he the most patient human in Eternal history in verse 26 tells them again was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory and then what Jesus does I believe he he opens the first Seminary right here on the spot all right this is the Jesus or Jewish Theological Seminary In This Moment he say beginning with

Moses and all the prophets he then interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning themselves I mean if there were ever like a sit down Bible study like that's the one I want to sit down and here Jesus started like when he says Moses and all the Prophet that the catch all PR Moses when he says in starting with Moses he's talking about the fact that Moses authored the first five books of the Bible we call the Torah it's the Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers Deuteronomy that's the Torah like that's what the Jews really hold on to as the authoritative scriptures of their religion

in addition to that he did says the prophets that's basically everything else that follows the the five books of Moses and then from there so it's B from Genesis to Malachi he's taking these two disciples all right this is a long 10K he's taking them from Genesis to Malachi and showing them how every story every teaching every event every Miracle every prophecy was meant to show them who to expect and what he's going to accomplish when he shows up on the scene that's the primary role of preaching and that's why preaching of the Bible is the single most important Ministry in the life of the

church because preaching is what reveals to us who Jesus is that's the primary role of preaching from Moses and all the prophets again catchphrase of all Genesis and Malachi the role of preaching is to explain and interpret how all the scriptures point to and reveal the purpose of Jesus Christ the son of God so that you may know it and believe it to be true which produces a white hot passion to know Jesus and to make him known to know Jesus and to make him known this is why I'm a firm believer that if you have doubts open up the word of God if you

doubts open up the word of God if you have questions go to the scriptures go to the scriptures too many people sit in their doubts and they sit in their questions without ever going to the source that is actually capable of removing their doubts and answering their questions like we sit around twilling our thumbs and our fingers wondering like all right I've had this question about God or church or Christianity man just hope I understand something I hope it just comes to me I hope God just like downloads it into my mind so that I can understand what is going on like we don't do

that with anything else right when something breaks in your home what do you do you sit on the couch just thinking how I fix that leaking it's going to come to me I know it's going to come to me but I just got to really sit and Ponder this for a minute no we Googled it right or we chat gbt and hope that it's not some like artificial intelligent demon that's like leaving you astray like we're diving into finding what it is in order to help us with what we need to do how do I Google how do I repair a leaking faet we'll jump

on YouTube and watch videos of it to show us what to know in order to execute what to do well that's what the primary role of scripture is designed who are we to know and what has he called us to do when we have a question about God or Jesus or Christianity the church we're going to look through it if we just talk about it and hope the answer magally appears in our minds but that's not how it works honestly that's how you get in trouble if we just sit around waiting for us to come to a conclusion about God or about Christianity or about

the church Church apart from the scriptures that's how you get new religions that's how you get Jehovah's Witness that's how you get Mormonism you get a couple of you get a couple of people or an individual who just goes away and it's like I'm gonna have a I'm gonna have I've got some questions about how this all works how life works man my imagination is starting to really work maybe it's this maybe it's that and if we're not grounded to biblical authoritative inspired by God written truth that already exists and there's nothing else to add to it we start creating our own things maybe we're

inspired but it's inspired by something other than true God it's a false god [Music] so what happened once the Seminary class finished on this 10K for what happened after Jesus opened up the scriptures to them taught them how all the scriptures were concerning him and what his purpose was what happened after that look at verse 28 so they drew near to the Village to which they were going and he acted as if he were going farther again this is just comical to me because it's the resurrected Jesus and he's like acting I just think that's funny as if he he's like all right I'm going

to continue on because I'm actually doing like a full Marathon here instead of a 10K but they're like no no no no no stay with us like Jesus is the glorified state of himself at this point like he knows already what he's about to do but even uses the moment to act as if he's going to go farther and I think there's a reason for that I want you to see this because verse 29 tells us they urged him strongly saying stay with us stay with us for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent all right I'm going to come back

to that in just a moment so he went in to stay with them now I want to pause and I want to say something that might upset both the reformed folk in the room and also the Armenian folk in the room and if you have no idea what I'm talking about in regards both those then you can mark yourself safe from countless and exhaustible debates that have been going on for at least 500 years but in the nutshell the reformed camp believes that God chooses who will be saved and by faith they receive God's election of them and they respond in obedience to Jesus all

right in the dumbest way I can explain the reformed view of how God Saves people he chooses them to be saved and by faith they receive God's election of them and they respond in obedience to Jesus The Armenian Camp believes that by faith we choose God and therefore God elects us to Salvation and we respond in obedience to Jesus all right so at the end of the day does God choose me or do I choose God if God chooses me he's elected me to be saved and I respond in obedience to him if I choose God God then elects me and I respond in obedience

to Faith and I follow him honestly I do land in one of those camps but here's what I also see in scripture there is something to Jesus moving and US needing to invite him to come in and say even though I land on the side that God elects those who will be saved before the foundation of the world because if you read Ephesians it does say that it also looks like God keeps electing new people like there's something about the preaching and proclamation of the Gospel that says and I'm not pretending to say that I understand the mystery of John 3:16 when it says for

God so Lov the world that he sent his only son that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life there is something to whosoever believes in him that we can't work out in our own understanding of how God Saves people now again I do believe that before the foundation of the world God already knows and has chosen who is going to be saved because scripture teaches that at the same time scripture teaches that we are to go out and proclaim the gospel and that whoever hears the gospel has an opportunity to respond by faith choosing God believing God and calling on the

Lord to save them and in that regard Armenians would say God is still choosing to elect people that's a mystery maybe that's a chance here's what I would say hly at the end of the day we are called to preach and proclaim the gospel if he's already chosen them beforehand great and wonderful God be all the GL if in preaching and proclaiming the gospel someone is able to be able to choose God and he saves them praise be God like if we just sit around debating like all right you know I'm in a drivethru or or let's just say I'm in a let's let's pull

it in a little bit closer I've got this neighbor I can't stand God surely not elected them so there's no reason for me to ever share the gospel with them I'm just saying on the reformed side sometimes we can do a little bit of man there's no hope for that person there's no way God's elected them they'd be a better person if that was the case they' already be saved or they'll get saved at some point because God elected them but I'm not going to be the agent of that because I can't stand the person like let's not go there the preaching of the Gospel

regardless of how God Saves them is the measure or the means by which he saves them it's the means by which he saves them for God so loved the world that he sent his only son that whoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life which shame with blood for Advent coming up that is our theme for this year for God so loved the world so we'll see you on December 1st to that off again I'm not that I have it all figured out but I'm going to land on the side that we are called to preach the gospel and however he elects

for them to be saved they will hear the gospel preach and they will invite Jesus to come in and stay just like these disciples this moment up until this point speaking they missed it but they haven't actually understood the gospel but in him opening up the scriptures to them something happens to where they say don't go further don't leave us come in and stay with us and then he reveals himself to them which is where we go next verse 30 when he was at the table with them he took the bread and he blessed it and he broke it and he gave it to them

and their eyes were open and they recognized him the first time and then he Ben from their sight which I just love that through the through the act of communion they recognized Jes Jesus in front of them which I'm going to come back to that when it's kind of this morning but then verse 31 says that he vanish from their side again um I was always going to believe that that is Jesus teleporter all right you can believe what you want to believe about it I believe Jesus in glorified body is able to teleport he's able to go in rooms without using doors how else

is that happen all right like I think he's teleporting like my number one thing that I'm looking forward to in glory is Jesus coming in at a close number two is I think I'm going to be able to tell I just have to believe it and I'm going to believe it and you should believe it too verse 32 they said to each other here's where we get to they said to each other did not our heart burn within us did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road while he opened to us the scriptures now think about this for

a second what what do I want for us I want us to have a white hot passion in following Jesus that knows him and makes him known the way that created a right hot passion them is that now yes it is Jesus in the moment but they don't recognize him yet so for anybody that could be just they might think he just another disciple of his or another teacher or a rabbi or somebody who is very educated in regards to the scriptures and they're teaching them the scriptures and in teaching them the scriptures showing them the gospel their hearts start burning with passion that eventually

lead to these guys inviting Jesus into their home and then knowing him recognizing him like this is your one two three punch process for how do we get our neighbors to come to know Jesus how do we get our co-workers to come to know Jesus do you know Jesus do you want to make Jesus known I now want to make make Jesus known how do I make him known I tell someone everything that makes him known so I need to know the scriptures I need to understand now I'm not saying that you got to have it all ironed out from Genesis to Revelation everything that

points to Jesus because if you use that as an excuse you'll never share the gospel and I think there are some people who use that as an excuse where they're like I I don't think I'm know what if they ask a question that I have the answer to well don't worry about that you became a Christian without all of your questions answered I have more questions now than when I did when I got saved in all honesty can we tell Lord that's a question I have how does God save people what how does election work itself out what is social um Justice in scripture what

is the equity of of different ethnicities in the scripture what are the the the fully functional roles of men and women found in the scriptures these are all questions that the church is still growing in and maturing in as we get to know Jesus so no church has all that stuff figured out but we're still diving in and learning and growing so you don't have to have it all figured out but what you do need to do is you need to be able to share scriptures with people that point to this is who Jesus Christ is this is what he came to accomplish and in

doing that their hearts will begin to burn within them if God is saving them if God is saving them so what happens in this moment for these men is they have a heart that begins to burn now my dad in the room uh my dad and my brother have basically chronically suffered from Harper in their entire life that's not what we're talking about in this story all right this isn't like here's just a prescription of tongu and that'll take care of your burning Hearts like this is a transformation of conviction that they have all right this is a transformation of conviction which is a firmly

held belief or opinion honestly cards on the table this is my greatest desire for everyone in this room that when the scriptures are open you would experience a transformation of conviction that leads to a white hot passion for knowing Jesus and making Jesus known again I mentioned it last week when the disciples witnessed the resurrection of Jesus it fundamentally changed them and altered the trajectory of their lives it changed them it changed how they order and Steward every aspect of their life Apostle Peter went from denying Jesus to preserve his life to declaring Jesus at the cost of his life like that doesn't happened just

because Jesus cooked a meal for him on the side of the beach after he denied Jesus that type of transformation happened because Peter ran to the tomb and found it empty found it empty the Apostle Paul went from persecuting the church in order to stop the mission of Jesus to planting churches in order to spread the mission of Jesus like that doesn't happen just because he had a disagreement with the the chief priest and the rulers and was like you know what I'm going to go try this other team he witnessed the resurrection of Jesus that type of Life altering conviction does not happen without

witnessing something cataclysm and that's exactly what witnessing Christ crucified and the Redeemer risen will do to a person I believe what these men on the road to emus are experiencing is the promise of God found in Jeremiah 32 36-41 that says this now therefore thus says the Lord the god of Israel concerning this city of which you say it is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword by and by pestil basically means this city is just given over to Hell behold I will gather them from all the countries to which I drove them in my anger and my wrath and in

great indignation I will bring them back to this place and I will make them dwell in safety again you want to go back to this is why I landed in one of those camps if you want to go back to no we got to wait until we all choose Jesus I'm like God here is saying I'm going to go grab all of them I'm going to bring them back and I'm going to make them dwell in safy just that's and they shall be my people and I will be their God I will give them one heart and one way that they may fear me forever

for their own good and for the good of their children after them I will make with them an Everlasting Covenant that I will not turn away from doing good to them and get this I will put the fear of me in their hearts that they may not turn from me I will rejoice in doing them good and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness with all my heart with all my soul there's a similar parallel passage in Ezekiel that talks about the Heart of Stone being removed and God giving them a heart of Flesh I think In This Moment the Heart of Stone

that is saturated with sin is removed as he's opening up the scriptures to them on this 10K and as they are now with this new heart that he has given them this heart of Flesh this heart that will Fe God will know God all of a sudden now also completely changes the trajectory of their lives now they want something different I don't know why they were going to a m I don't know why they were leaving Jerusalem in this moment but what I do know is that it says their disposition was sad was sad so maybe they were going to get away from it all

maybe they were like we need to retrieve we need to get out of town we need we're tired of the talk we're sad we're defeated essentially what all of a sudden changed them from sadness to joyful eagerness because remember what did they say I said I come back to it what they say to Jesus on the road when they got to a maze hey man it's getting late the day already spent time to call at night like would you come and stay with us one of the reasons why they say that is because when it gets to after hours on the roads that's how the

goods American story comes around it's not a safe place to be in between Villages it's basically like International wers all right that's where the thieves come out the robbers come out the ones who come and beat that's where it gets ugly and so these guys in this moment are thinking we need to get the safety the day spent the night's here we need to rest before we do something else why don't you stay with us what does the scripture actually say they then start going back to Jerusalem right after dinner right after Jesus like allows them to recognize him they don't say hey when morning

comes let's head back to Jerusalem they get out on the road and they now turn the 10K into a 20K and they're getting back to Jerusalem why because they see Jesus alive they see Jesus alive sadness has now turned to joyful urgy see I want to tell you about the most important day in the history of England according to English historians it's known as the Battle of Hastings the year was 1066 and even most English historians would say that the year 1066 in England is the most significant year in the history of England like that's a big statement all right because like England has a

pretty rich history the reason why is in 1066 there were three kings crowned that year all right and there were two major decisive battles the first king that was crowned was by the name of a man Edward the Confessor all right Edward the Confessor was an anglosaxon King here's the thing he married someone that he didn't want to marry but was forced to marry and kind of in a like final pity party if you want to say it he did not bear children chose not to Bear children because he didn't ever wanted to marry this lady and so he didn't didn't want to have any

Legacy continue on because of that so Edward the Confessor in 1066 is on his deathbed coming to the end of his rain and so there's going to be another king to come and there's no air of his to be able to take the throne so it's a very significant shift or opportunity for a shift in the history of England so there are several people the girl that he married she has a brother who wants the throne but he has no title all right his name is um godson all right there's two other guys who actually have blood lineage all right now they're like distant cousins

of Edward the Confessor but they actually have blood lineage so they have rightful reason to be able to continue on the the Legacy and the throne one of them is Herold hrada of Scandinavia so he's actually the king of Norway at this time now he's of liking for through Harold hrada is actually if you were to hrada is kind of like a nickname of his which means hard Ruler all right not the king you want to take over okay he has a ship he was really not did Viking ships fleets and so forth his ship was called The Serpent if that tells you what uh

Team he's on all right so he wants to come and take the throne Because he believes he has a right to because of the lineage and he wants to then take the Viking culture and Ed it into England all right Peril hyra so he forms a Edward the Confessor D the brother-in-law Harold godwinson usurps the throne and actually declares himself King before anyone else does and then basically is like so he basically robs the he just takes it because he's like I was married to to the King's sister perrada finds out about that doesn't like it gets very upset pulls together 300 ships and comes

to fight against Harold Golson this is the Battle of Stanford bridge at the Battle of Stanford Bridge Harold godwinson the one only made good thing that he did was actually defend England and he defeated um this this Viking king of Norway which actually according to English historians ended the age of the Vikings so Harold godon then is like this has solidified my kingship because I've won a battle I've defended England and now it's my rightful PR even though I didn't have it by Blood lineage I now get to continue on with this however right before Edward the Confessor died history tells us that he actually

promised the throne to another man in like one of his distant cousins who is named Herold or I'm sorry the Duke William of Normandy Duke William of Normandy which Normandy is like not Anglo Saxon it's actually French heritage um but anyways he believed that William would be a better fit King of England than Herold hyr because again hard ruler versus William who was a Christian ruler of Normandy it's so important this battle that's about to take place that history literally tells us if hero hrada would have won instead of this next battle that's about to take place if Herold hadr would have taken the throne

and become king the Viking age there would be no Cathedrals or castles in the English like that's how important they say this year was so anyways Harold godson has just defeated Herold hrada in September of 1066 kind of beaten and bruised but Victorious is on his way back well William in Normandy finds out that uh ginon has actually usurped the throne and taken it and he's like it was promised to me like I'm the one who's Will to take England into its next chapter and its next season I'm the one that was actually supposed to take the throne and so he puts together his soldiers

of of about 8,000 Battalion and they start marching on What's called the Battle of Hastings and so Harold godson who's the current King hears that William is coming he's like uh oh I know it was promised to him but I need to defend the kingdom that I have now taken and so they come to this place called Hastings because Herold godwinson was kind of depleted of soldiers he says we're going to have one strateg we're going to get all the soldiers packed in tight and we're going to create what's called a shield wall all right and so they're going to be shoulder to shoulder but

to shield and their whole thing was guard the road to London don't let anyone get to l that we're just going to stay right here we're going to practice defense and they're going to have to come after us and it's going to be an impenetrable wall no one's going to be able to get through and as they try to get through we're just going to pick them off one after another after another and so when Duke William of Normandy shows up he's got his troops out he sees the shield wall he's like I don't know how we get through this other than just attacking it

on the offense so they do so over and over and over again they go and attack it they don't get through they have to Retreat because they're starting to lose soldiers they go and attack it again they start to retreat and they're like we don't have any like we're losing our soldiers what do we do one little lip happens in the battle that changed everything when they come into the battle they start retreating and as they start retreating one of the left lanks of the shield wall they see this as an opportunity let's just wipe them out once and for all so they break the

shield wall and they start running after the the the nor and as they running after the Normans they they they literally scream a rumor among the the the the Williams Army that they killed William like that's almost a death Lo to any army if you yell or if they get them to all believe that your king is dead what else are you finding for like you're fighting for the kingdom of your king So if he's gone you B so they spread the rumor and literally as the rumor spreads all of William's Army begin retreating yelling the king is dead the king is dead Retreat Retreat

and history tells us that Duke William of Normy who's in the battle Ed this he takes his helmet off and he begins riding his horse back and forth along the the battle lines yelling I'm alive turn and fight I'm alive turn and fight and so literally it all of a sudden boosts the morale of all of the soldiers and because the shield wall was broken they eventually get in and work their way through the shield wall and they defeat all of them William then kills Herold or Harold Godin in the battle I don't know if he actually killed him but someone killed him they find

his body dead they won the the battle and then on Christmas day of 1066 the Duke of Normandy is Crown King of England and he ushers in for the next several hundred years a way of Christian values throughout England which is why if you look from 1066 through the 1500s that's when all the cathedrals were built how did that happen well apart from God what happened was he instilled um a prow boost and confidence in his soldiers because they saw they thought he was dead and they saw him alive what changed for these men on the road ofas who were sad and scared about what

might happen on the road to all of a sudden now excited and ready to go back to Jerusalem and continue engaging in the fights of Christianity in the spreading of this good news that Jesus has been sharing with them the past for years they saw their King alive and well who says I'm here I'm alive you now see me turn and fight and they go back to Jerusalem and what does it say they found the 11 and those who were with them gathered together saying the Lord has risen indeed and has appeared to S so they're confirming what the women have also said that he

appeared to Peter then they told what had happened on the road and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread two things I want to share with you real quick in this way of application number one sign up for Jesus Seminary class on this just another way me telling you know your Bible get in the word of God get in the scripture get in the word of God so that it can produce in you a white passion to know Jesus I always say this Jesus says of himself that he is the visible representation of the invisible God so in Jesus's day

for them to know God was to know Jesus well you don't get to see Jesus today right he's not like walking around physically in this room maybe he is and he's doing that whole unrecognizable thing he got kasses we don't know like but here's the truth and reality is how do we know Jesus today the written word of God is the visible representation of the visible Jesus that's what he's given us he says literally from Moses to all the prophets and even what is inspired not the New Testament with the uh Apostles and the Epistles and the Book of Revelation all of it is to

show you exactly who Jesus is and what he's accomplished so get to know it in order to get to know Jesus to know Jesus I want you to have a white hot passion following Jesus by knowing them and the second thing I want you to do is I want you to run a 10k of bed time I want you to run a 10K at bedtime not literally that sounds crazy but these men were bold enough to go and tell people Jesus is Alive and Well and the next time you feel that conviction in your gut I should invite this person to church or I should

ask this person what they think about Jesus just remember run a 10k run to 10K at time it sounds crazy but it's not impossible again traveling fromus to Jerusalem at night is normally not a LIC but these men were willing to do it they were willing to risk everything because sadness had turned to Joy and the new news that everyone was talking about didn't share the whole story all right that's why again like you can't ever T Med what's going it doesn't tell the whole story but Jesus tells the whole story he told them the whole story and they believe this news needed to get

to the apostles as quick as possible so that we can get to the book of Acts which that's not like we're not going to acts next we're continue with Luke all right what L got to tell us Luke wrote some of us might be nervous about sharing the gospel as coworker because it's here that they will think we out of our minds these men after spending time with Jesus consider it Joy if they the goel people persecuted them for it I'm just saying like that's the scriptures like when you look at first and first and second century of the expansion growth of the church it

was like normal for the disciples to wear it as a badge of honor if they preached and proclaimed the gospel and got persecuted for it like here we kind of made it like taboo like man we're trying to build a relationship with our neighbors Rel ckers God forbid we don't want it to actually affect our Effectiveness in how we do our jobs and bu our years and so and what are we talking about we're nervous about what we the next 20 30 years in exchange for not telling this person what they're going to experience for eternity like I mean that's a Jesus juk if I've

ever given one but I want us to prioritize and know what God has actually call us to our careers our families where we live all of those things you can read this God has placed you specifically where you are not to build a kingdom for yourself but build his kingdom that's it that's why we're here we're here to know Jesus and treasure him and to help everyone else do the exact same thing because here's the truth not everyone's going to think you're crazy not everyone's going to persecute you you're going to share the good news of Jesus Christ and some people are going to say

my heart this is I don't know what's going on but my heart starting to burn within me like I I want to know this Jesus that you're sharing with me I want to know him I want to know what he's accomplished for me like I I do have this shame and this guil about the things that I'm striving after that don't provide any satisfaction for me but Jesus has paid all of that Jesus has actually provided forgiveness for Me Like Jesus can actually bring me back into relationship with my Creator who I actually do believe exists because it's written on my heart but I've been

suppressed from that because of sin like do I believe that do we believe that sharing good news and having people burn in their hearts because they hear the gospel they get saved I'm telling you right now they're your best friend for the rest of their life because they were lost and now they're B they were blind and now they see and you were one of the agents that helped them get healed it's amazing I mean right now is there anyone in your life who at some point in your life has helped you understand Jesus and you look back on them and think how dare they

no we all look back on those people who have discipled us in different stages and think God thank you for them thank you for them are you that person for others are you that person for others as we conclude this morning 1 Corinthians 14 it tells us when we preach the word of God it causes our hearts to burn within us it does something in us that we can't do for ourselves like when we start talking about Jesus and what he's accomplished for us it transforms our conviction it convicts us and it shows us where we're lacking and it shows us where we can now

be longing in the spirit of Christ and and and it is Grace because at the same time when it's lacking it's okay because we're like hey Jesus already P that so it's all right that I've already messed up a couple of times maybe I haven't been sharing the gospel because I'm fearful of what they're going to think about me but in this moment I'm seeing that the greatest thing I can do for them the greatest way I can actually love them and share the gospel with them and so God will you forgive me about the fear that I've already had and he said yes yes

I forgive you in that because I've already PA that the cross and instead now I'm going to just continue like I'm alive so turn and fight fight for the church fight for the gospel fight for the spread of Jesus have a white hot passion for knowing him and at the same time make him known to everyone around you Paul tells us there's no greater Joy then making our Joy complet by coming to share in the gospel Mage like what most excited Paul was sharing the gospel and people coming to know Jesus and for him if that man he shared the gospel 10 times and one

person get saved and those other nine beat him he says it was worth it it was worth it for that one person the way we come together as a church I said Jesus did an incredible thing in this moment for these two disciples when they actually came into the house when he broke bread it's what caused them to rec see there's two um there's two call it what you want rituals practices the church whatever there's two things that the church does one is it bapes people and two it breaks bread together it performs communion this is something that you can only do in the corate

Gathering of the church like if you do juice and bread like in your community groups or what not different time like it's something but it's not this thing the reason why people get baptized into the church is because it's taking the individual siners and it's connecting them to the all encompassing Body of Christ what bre is doing and the and the juice is doing is it's taking the body of Christ and it's connecting it to the one person of Jesus Christ that's why we do both of those things one takes one and connects it to the all and the other takes the all and connects

it to the one and it's a reminder for us every single week that we are all call to know Jesus and make him known and what FS that is him saying I died for you I was buried and now I'm blind and that's why we come to this communion every single week is because it reminds us that he died that he died for you he broke his body shed his blood that you don't have to but that's good news Good Friday is good news because of what Jesus Christ accomplished on the CR and so when we break bread and when we drink the juice we're

remembering that he broke his body and that he shed his blood for the removal and forgiveness of our sins which man talk about something that turn sadness to Joy like having your sins covered and forgiven and paid for and even like something God can do that you cannot do God even says I remember them no more I remember them no more you're like I remember my college days I remember that argument I had with my spouse last week I remember that way that I you know SP off on my child when I shouldn't have it was a little too much like God says I remember

it no more because his wrath towards Jesus on the cross him becoming sin who knew no sin so that you and I might become the righteousness of God he says I Was So Satisfied in paying the punishment for all of your sin s that I will remember them no more so when we come to this table it's an invitation to be able to come to the feet of Jesus and come to the father God and come with confidence that he's not going to like how dare no he's already said how dare you to Jesus in your place instead he says come to me all who

are weary and heavy laden I will give rest come to me I want to just I want to pick you up I want to hold you I want to cherish you I want to love you I want Tov you with grace and mercy I want to take care of you I want to fill you up I want to F you I want to give you excitement Joy I want your heart to burn within you I want you to fear me I want you to know me I want you to treasure me I want you to have all those things because of what Jesus Christ did

for you that's why we do this every single week is to see what the father was R on our all right so let's go and stand what we're going to do is we're going to during the time of the song we're going to calm down grab the element we're going to bring back to our we're going to take a moment to just reflect just reflect if you're not a believer of Jesus Christ if if right now you're like I've never followed him I've never um I've never chosen him I've never believed in him I've never followed Christ like this is an opportunity for you to

just sit down for a moment and say I I think I do believe in Jesus I think he did live the perfect life that I could not live I think he died the death that I deserve because I couldn't live a perfect life and I believe that three days later God was satisfied with his pain and he rose from the grave and now is my Lord and Savior he's my king he's alive and well the scripture is clear that whoever calls on the name of the Lord he did what he said he did for you will be sa will be saved that's literally save from

God and to you this morning I pray that you let someone know next to come down with so that we canj and have S turn into joy for be a moment where you reflect on your life you reflect on what you do on a daily basis how are you life so that you're running a 10K at how are you Steward in your life to know Jesus and make him know and do it with urgency don't wait for the morning so let's take a time now and do that down grab the El BR we will partake together at the end
