The World Has Gone After Him

go ahead and have a seat this time we'll go and dismiss our kids to little district and for the rest of us as always grab your Bibles and we're going to turn to Luke chapter 19 Luke chapter 19 we're are going to be um in verses 28 through 44 we're going to be looking at the story of the triumphal entry uh so this is your typical kind of Palm Sunday message that you would get the week before Easter um but we're going to look at it maybe from a bit of a different angle than just what you would typically maybe hear on um covering this

passage of Jesus writing in on the donkey and everyone with the palm branches waving at him saying hosana in the highest um we're going to talk about that but we're going to do a little bit of a deeper dive into the context of what's going on in the triumphal entry and really the reason for the triumphal entry and so there's a couple of questions that we're going to ask um but before we get to that I titled this and I don't necessarily always give away what the title is I don't know why I just don't um you do see the title if you see it

on YouTube um but the title is the world has gone after him the world has gone after him and that's because it's in relation to this triumphal entry while they were there there were some Pharisees that are also there and they're seeing what is going on with this large crowd and literally they say in John 12: 19 which is a part of the parallel passage of the triumphant entry they say you see that you are gaining nothing as these Pharisees are talking with one another they're literally saying because of what Jesus is doing we're losing we're not gaining anything look the world has gone after

him and so I want to kind of see and look at why why has this large crowd gathered and then at the same time why did it lead to the Pharisees ultimately Killing Jesus and so those are the two questions why has the world gone after Jesus and why did it lead to the Pharisees killing him and so let's look at this passage Luke 1928 through 44 and see what the Holy Spirit would have for us as he continues to use scriptures like this to mature Us in Jesus and that's why we're here right we want to mature in Christ and and see God's entire

narrative of what he has been doing from Genesis to Revelation how it's all pointing to Jesus how it's all about Jesus and stories just like this continue to reveal to us literally everything that culminates on the person and work of Christ his life his death his resurrection stories like this continue revealing to us all that God is actually coming to accomplish in in what he's doing and so let's read this with that in mind looking at verse 28 and when he had said these things and what he means by that is just referencing what we covered last week which was the parable of the 10

miners that he was explaining to the crowd he went on ahead going up to Jerusalem verse 29 when he drew near to Beth Page and Bethany at the mount that is called oliv it he sent two of the disciples saying go into the village in front of you where on entering you will find a cult tied on which no one has ever yet sat untie it and bring it here if anyone asks you why are you untying it you shall say this the Lord has need of it so those who were sent went away and found it just as he told them and as they

were untying the cult its owners said to them why are you untying the cult it's like as if Jesus knew what they were going to ask why are you taking our cult um and they said the Lord has need of it and they brought it to Jesus and throwing their cloaks on the Colt they set Jesus on it now you might be thinking well that seems like a very odd thing to do um maybe Jesus was like an Indianapolis Colts fan I don't know um maybe he was kind of foreshadowing that but that's not the kind of cult that we're talking about here this is

not even a a horse's cult this is a donkey's cult um so it's not a cool version of it at all but as John's account of the triumphal entry shows us the parallel in John 12 this was to fulfill yet another Prophecy of the Old Testament again it's just another one of those details that Jesus is including in his story and his Narrative of of letting everyone know that it's it's I'm trying to make it as impossible as possible to miss me like everything is pointing to me even down to details of me prophesying hundreds of years before that when the King enters he will

enter riding on a donkey he will enter riding on a cult and that comes from Zechariah 9:9 that we'll see here in a moment but let's look at verse 36 continue on and as he rode along they spread their cloaks on the road and as he was drawing near already on the way down the Mount of Olives the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen saying blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord peace in heaven and glory in the highest verse 39 and some

of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him teacher rebuke your disciples and he answered them I tell you if these were silent the very Stones would cry out now that's actually another prophecy reference um to habach 2: 10-1 which is a prophetic warning actually to Woe those who cut the people off from God or cut the Nations off from God anyone who's trying to keep people from God rather is going to have a warning from them but also those who do that if you were to actually cut people off and Nations off to where no one has access he's saying at the end of

the day even the stones would cry out and praise him even the beams that are in your household would cry out and praise him because at the end of the day what he's getting by in those words is um God will get his praise no matter what and there's nothing that the Pharisees can do to thwart it to thwart it and so let's pick it up in verse 41 and when he drew near and he saw the city he wept over it saying would that you even you had known on this day the things that make for peace but now they are hidden from your

eyes for the days will come upon you and your enemies will set up a barricade around you and Surround you and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground you and your children within you and they will not leave one stone upon another in you because you did not know the time of your visitation now there's so much to cover Just In this passage alone and the more you dig really the more marvelous it becomes but at the same time it also becomes more heartbreaking when you see passages like this and so let's see what the Lord would have for

us um through this passage during this time let's pray together before we continue God we want to come to you just in prayer because we know that um the two primary ministries of the church is the word of God in prayer and we know that we cannot know the word of God without prayer um and we also know that the word cannot be effective without prayer we know that we cannot understand it with Without You revealing it to us without you allowing us to not have it hidden but rather have it known and God it reveals or it pleases you to reveal your son to

us and to reveal the plan that your son had all along and as we look at this passage and we see this triumphal entry of Jesus as he's approaching Jerusalem I pray that we are able to to see with spiritual eyes and ears exactly what's going on in this moment so that we would be able to rightly praise you and be excited about what it is that you're doing but that it would also provide for us a bit of sorrow and grieving and lamentation because of what we know is about to take place and so father I pray that your Holy Spirit would again just

continue to mold us and shape us and mature us to become like your son Jesus so that as we leave this place today that our joy is greater that our love for you is greater that our desire to see your mission um fleshed out in our lives is greater because we are more mature in you because we abide in you because we treasure you it's in your name we pray amen as I mentioned last week where we're at in the context to this passage is Jesus is leaving Jericho and he's beginning this Final Approach to Jerusalem and if you were to take the gospels Matthew

Mark Luke and John and if you were to kind of lay them over top of each other Jesus is actually making a pit stop in the Bethany area near Mount oliv it or also called the Mount of Olives um before he gets to Jerusalem and so Luke here kind of barely mentions that he just says as they near Beth Page and and Bethany U but as you again overlap each of them you start to see that there's a little bit more that takes place before they actually get to Jerusalem and so if you know anything about the Mount of Olives it's about a Sabbath day

Journey from Jerusalem now that does not mean that it takes a Day's Journey to get there the Sabbath day journey is different than a Day's Journey so it's not like they left out walking and and literally it's going to take them a day in order to get there a Sabbath day journey is a is a a measurement that literally just means 3/4 of a mile roughly 3/4 of a mile I mean we've got marathoners in here that could make that trip in five minutes probably um but when it comes to the original Rabin Jewish law Sabbath's day Journey was all that they were allowed to

walk on the day of the Sabbath so they could only go about 34 of a mile outside of the city so if you know anything about Indianapolis I mean you can pretty much see the city from anywhere around so this idea of where Jesus is is he's outside the city about a mile away getting close to it and he can see all of it he can see all of Jerusalem as he is approaching another thing that's interesting about the Mount of Olives where he's at is that that's also where we see him or we conclude with Christ at his Ascension and so after he resurrects

and he spends his 40 days with the disciples and he actually goes to Galilee for a little bit and gives them the Great Commission at Mount arel he eventually makes his way back to the Mount of Olives and that's where he ascends into glory and so this is a significant place where you see actually two things happen this is the culmination of him beginning his descent into the grave at the same time will come back and have his Ascension so the Mount of Olives is a very significant play but there's still even more going on in this moment because not only is he at the

mount ofos but he also is in a place called Bethany and if you know anything about the scriptures Bethany has some pretty significant things going on there and this is where I want to take you to the parallel passage again overlapping the gospels to see a different vantage point of the triumphal entry from the Apostle John and so if you'll turn over with me to John chap 11 I want you to see what is also going in um going on during this time because this is what allows us to see why such a large crowd gathers as well as why the Pharisees uh plan to

actually kill Jesus and so let's look at it together John chapter 11 we're going to start in verse 55 and and I'm going to kind of work through quite a bit here as we go through it so starting in verse 55 it says now the Passover of the Jews was at hand and many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover to purify themselves now we're going to spend a great deal um in the coming weeks talking about the Passover and its significance um so I'm not going to deal a lot about that today you're going to see it referenced a couple of

times but again there's going to be a lot of it covered in the coming weeks and months verse 56 they were looking for Jesus and saying to one another as they stood stood in the temple what do you think think he will um or that he will not come to the Feast at all now the chief priest and the feses had given orders that if anyone knew where he was he should let them know so that they might arrest him so this this whole scene of everyone coming to Jerusalem um is kind of like a Jason born movie if you will like there's one guy

that everyone's heard about and they're like there's something significant about this guy and all the authorities are like we're hunting him like we're trying to find him but he keeps like sneaking away he keeps like we have all eyes on him and then he vanishes and he goes on to another Village and so they're trying to find him they're fascinated and that's kind of the scene of what's going on with the authorities is they're looking for Jesus and they're wanting to catch him and they're wanting to arrest him while at the same time in the context of Jewish culture it's like their Super Bowl so

it's the Passover and so it's everybody who's Jewish is coming to Jerusalem they're going to bring their sacrificial animal and they're going to eventually have their purification of sins for the annual year and so it's it's a very significant moment to where everyone's going to be heightened in their senses and awareness of just what's going on so it's it's a significant moment in the time of just Jewish culture as well and so in that context let's then see what's going going on with Jesus specifically in John 12 starting in verse one 6 days before the Passover Jesus therefore came to Bethany so this is where

again it begins overlapping with our context in Luke Luke just kind of leads out the specific story about Jesus visiting with Lazarus Mary and Martha as we're about to see so six days before the Passover Jesus therefore came to Bethany where Lazarus was whom Jesus had raised from the dead which is what he did at the beginning of John 11 so they gave a dinner for him there Martha served and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at table so Jesus and Lazarus just hanging out now like hey remember I just brought you back from the dead not long ago so they gave a

dinner for him there Martha served Lazarus was one of the ones with him reclining at the table Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from Pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume but Judas scariot one of his disciples he who was about to betray him John just loves to kind of work that in there a little bit just so you know who he is and said why was this ointment not sold for 300 dinari and given to the poor as if he cares you'll see that

in verse six he said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief and having charge of the money bag he used to help himself to whatever was put into it Jesus said leave her alone so that she may keep it for the day of my burial for the poor you always have with you but you do not always have me I I love that Jesus just continues to drop s you know like these I mean it's really not subtle at this point but he's dropping these hints of literally what's about to take place but yet the disciples are still

not aware of it like still not fully comprehending that when we get to Jerusalem like Jesus is going to die like they just don't think that's going to happen I mean literally up to the point when he even gets arrested what does Peter do Peter's like not today like not on my watch and like chops the guy's ear off like he he still doesn't understand what is going on but Jesus continues to reveal to him his plan and this is one of those moments where again it's important for us because this is what we're praying for is that God reveals truth to us because he's

dropping truth to them all of the time and they're not seeing it they're not hearing it and so that's where we need to always see that there's there's moments when you're like reading through devotions when you're reading through the scriptures when you're having conversations with friends and you're talking about Jesus and looking at it like there are going to be moments where you hear truth and you don't hear the truth you see truth and you don't see the truth like it's right before you and that's why again I believe it's so important and I love like that again like David has been helping us out

with with like raising our um bar of what it looks like to um memorize scripture and just have it before us because the reality is it could be before us and we still miss it and so so there's a call for us to like meditate on it there's a call for us to hide the truth in our hearts to like get it into our minds so that in the types of moments we might be able to see exactly what Jesus is doing what is he doing in our lives well here he's letting her know hey make sure you keep that ointment because you're actually going

to need it for my burial that's coming up they're like what I mean she's gonna have to hold on to that thing for a long time because you're our King you're about to rule and Reign for the next 40 50 years is what they're thinking so it's odd in their mind but Jesus goes on look at verse n when the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus was there they came not only on account of him but also to see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead so this right here gives us the reason for why there is such a large crowd um

following Jesus as he approaches to enter Jerusalem they've heard of the miraculous works of Jesus and they're also wanting to see his work with their own eyes so they they're hearing man Jesus like brought a dude back to life like his name's Lazarus and so they're jumping in to like we want to see what has gone on here at the end of the day what they want to see is a resurrection like it's drawing at this point the largest crowd that Jesus has brought together and it's because they want to see a resurrection and and honestly ly I believe that's one of the most intrinsic

desires of our soul we want to see a resurrection because written on our hearts is eternity and without knowing Jesus if eternity is written on your hearts and you don't know The Giver of Life then that's the most anxious and hopeless and helpless place to live in existence if eternity is written on your hearts and you don't know how to get there and so what we're what's gwing in our in our heart and in our mind in our souls every single day is is how do I fix myself how do I fix my situation how do I get life when what's gnawing at me is

that I'm experiencing an eternity of death because I'm actually not connected to The Giver of Life and this is one this is in my opinion the reason why the self-help industry is is worth $ 13.4 billion is because as a society as humans because we want and desire to see a resurrection we're searching for our own resurrection and how we're trying to selfhelp and self- make ourselves we're trying to resurrect ourselves we're trying to live longer we're trying to be in better shape all the time like we're trying to resurrect something that only God can do but yet because we're not in relationship with him

the only option we have is to turn within to turn to ourselves to try to figure out ourselves and again that's why again the self-help movement is so profitable is because everybody wants this but they don't realize that Christ is the only one who can give it to them we know we are imperfect and we're trying to achieve perfect fection we know we are dead and are trying to find life and so we're looking for a resurrection and I think that's one of the biggest reasons why this crowd has drawn Around Jesus is because not only are they hearing that Jesus has brought someone back

to life but that guy they can actually go have a conversation with him if you remember if you actually go back to the Story of Lazarus it says that there were many Jews who came to the funeral and so there were many Jews who were there lamenting this loss with Mary and Martha and then they got to witness Jesus performing a resurrection so then those many Jews are going to then leave and they're going to go back into their Villages they're going to go back into Jerusalem and guess what they're going to do they're going to go tell everybody hey L we were there he

was dead four days not we put him in the Tomb we rolled the Stone over him he was gone and then Jesus spoke and he came out and not only that but hey they're throwing a meal for Jesus at their house let's go and so they come around and they literally um all draw near to this feast and that's why they're there let's pick it up in verse 10 so the chief priest then made plans to put put Lazarus to death as well because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus again you can kind of start to

see this frustration of the Pharisees is that they're starting to lose and Jesus is gaining so this shows us two things the reason for the large crowds and the reason for the Jews boiling point look at verse 12 and the next next day the large crowd that had come to the feast which was not the Passover yet but the feast that was at lazarus's house the next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem so I think there's like commotion going on like all right he's here what's he doing next like at this point now it's

like like a Music Tour like it's all right we we just got to have dinner with him at this massive Feast at lazarus's house but where's he going next we're going wherever he's going heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem so then they took branches of palm trees and they went out to meet him crying out Hosanna blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord the king of Israel and then Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it just is as it is written and this is where he quotes Zechariah 9 ver9 fear not Daughter of Zion behold your King is

Coming sitting on a donkey's cult and then his disciples again did not understand these things at first but when Jesus was glorified then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him the crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the Tomb and raised him from the dead they continued to Bear witness so they're evangelizing the story and the reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign and so the Pharisees then said to one another and this is it comes the title you see that you

are gaining nothing so that just is their way of saying we're losing right now all of our people that are support that are that we exercise power over that we receive all of our um resources from they're leaving us and they're going after Jesus so that gives us a bit more context of what is happening before Jesus has this triumphal entry into Jerusalem the last people Jesus spends time with before he enters Jerusalem are a man that was dead whom Jesus miraculously performs a Resurrection on that man's sister who anoints Jesus with oil that is a sign of his own impending death burial and Resurrection

a great crowd who wants to see and witness all of this because they're looking for a resurrection not only in what they can witness but it's because there's that knowing on their soul that they need one as well and then there's Pharisees that want to put an end to all of this now pay attention to this because I think this is what's amazing I say amazing Jesus refers to it as marvelous in Psalm 118 22-23 that the band actually referenced earlier a man was dead who Jesus performs a Resurrection on the people around town catch wind of this miracle and they all want to come

see this Jesus who raises people from the dead because again that's that's Godlike Authority and power this is not this is not merely like what King Herod at the time said like they thought just Jesus was some type of magician and so like send this magician to me so that he can do some some like just entertainment for me they're looking at a resurrection and they're thinking the only person we know who can resurrect people is God himself and so if this man is doing that then maybe maybe he is God maybe he is the king that we are looking for and when they all

gathered and the Pharisees say we're losing everything which is Greek for their entire life they all find their places on the side of the road road as if it's like this parade where they begin laying down their cloaks and picking up palm branches to Rejoice that the long awaited King is here but what they don't realize the Pharisees are about to give themselves over to exactly what Jesus wants them to do and accomplish that actually ushers in the true king in a completely different way than what they expected you see in this triumphal inury if you've pictured it like if you've watched movies like Gladiator

and you see Emperors like entering into Rome or entering into to their empire and all of the crowds all the people all the citizens they like line the streets I mean it's a parade and they're all praising this King who's coming in why because he has the best interest of the Kingdom in his hands and so they're they either support him or they're against him and in this moment they're believing that this King Jesus is coming to take his throne to take his kingdom but what they believe it is is just taking back Jerusalem taking back the kingdom of the Jews taking back the promised

land taking back what has been taken by barbarians what has been taken by Gentiles what has been taken by at this point the Roman Empire like they don't want the Roman Empire to rule them anymore they want to rule and Reign themselves and so their triumphal entry is finally if he can resurrect this man Lazarus then he is the god man he is the son of David and his throne is ready for him we've been preserving it for over 400 years we haven't heard from you but we've been preserving everything that you told us to do and it's ready for you and so the long

awaited Messiah the long awaited King is here and the people are all about it but the Pharisees don't like it because they were thinking the King was going to be on their side not the people's side they thought they were going to get a king that agrees with everything that they've established about the law and all the rules that they've put along with it they thought they were going to be able to keep their places in the synagogue and their seats on the throne and and they were going to be able to keep their status and their priv and their their roles when it comes

to what they are teaching the people they thought all of that was going to be good they just need a figure they just need a king but a king who really doesn't have any Authority a king that's not actually going to put them in their place an exact judgment that's not what they were wanting that's not what they were wanting and so this Jesus didn't fit their bill and so they are devising a plan to killed them to kill him and what we're seeing played out here in this moment is as they are ushering Jesus into Jerusalem through this triumphal entry them all thinking it's

for him to be king what they actually don't realize is that they're ushering in the lamb that's going to be used at the Passover to be slaughtered and what they don't realize in this moment is that the Pharisees are the ones acting as high priest that's about to take Jesus the Lamb of God and they're going to Usher him to the sacrifice to The Altar and they're going to break his body and they're going to shed his blood the lamb who is without spot and blemish because he's sinless like they're going to kill him him and in doing all of that they have no idea

that they're actually accomplishing what God deems necessary for them to be forgiven of their sins they have no idea they think they're preserving their self-help made life and instead God through his wisdom that is infinite is working all of this out so that really what the people are doing that are along the road is is they are um worshiping ahead of their time if you want to put it that way they're worshiping what they think is going to be an Earthly King because he's done some miraculous wonders but they don't realize that they're actually just practicing what is going to happen in the second return

When when Jesus comes back and is then ushered in with a triumphal entry when that when that trumpet sounds and he comes back riding on a horse he's not coming back as the lamb he's coming back as the lion he's coming back to rule and Reign and exact judgment but in this moment what you're seeing played out and this is why I think again Psalm 118 says that the Lord is doing this and considers it to be marvelous although the builders are rejecting it him being the stone the Cornerstone what's happening there is there's this Marvel that's working out where it's glory being manifested in

God's Plan of Redemption at the same time there's this grieving and lamenting of Christ because what they're accomplishing they're not going to believe they're not even going to receive it they're not going to see it and so that's why in verse 41 of Luke 19 this is why when everyone else is rejoicing for the king they think they're ushering in Jesus is not rejoicing like Jesus is not coming through like the emperor and Gladiator where he hasn't done anything and he hasn't deserved anything and he's just walking through waving his hand like yes cherish me treasure me worship me Jesus isn't doing that as he's

coming through on this donkey he's coming through humbled because of what he's about to experience when he drew near and he saw the city he wept over it he wept over it saying would that you even you had known on this day the things that make for peace that's his way of saying I wish you could see what I'm doing I wish you could see what's taking place right now I wish you could see why back in Luke Chapter N I turned my face to Jerusalem I wish you could see that every sign and every wonder and every miracle that I performed was just a

foreshadowing of the great miracle of me laying down my life so that I can forgive your sins and actually truly heal you truly provide a miracle for you but this is hidden from your eyes you're not able to see it for the days will come upon you and this is where he's talking about the Judgment that's going to come upon the Jewish people who did not receive their Cornerstone for the days will come upon you when you're enemies will set up a barricade around you and Surround you and hem you in on every side and they're going to tear you down to the ground and

you and your children within you which is his way of saying like there will be no Legacy anymore and they will not leave one stone upon another in you because you did not know the time of your visitation which is his way of saying you did not realize that this was the first coming of your Messiah you didn't see it and so why is Jesus grieving because remember the last line from last week's sermon Luke 19 verse 27 as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to Reign Over them bring them here and slaughter them before me what's crazy In This Moment

is they're going to kill Jesus which as I've always said like is a hard way to work this out in a court of law as to who's at fault for Killing Jesus because again they're going to murder Jesus because he was and it's considered a murder because he was unright judged and he was like he committed no crimes so there was no reason to murder him at the same time Jesus says no one takes my life I lay it down at the same time God says everything that's about to take place is at my hand i'm crushing my son and it's grieving Jesus In This

Moment they rejected him and that's why Psalm 118 22 the stone that the builders rejected has become the Cornerstone he's grieving because the builders are the Jewish people like they're the ones that God plucked out of all of humanity to work through and use as the people in which his bloodline was going to come from in which all the law was going to be given to that's going to be the standard of righteousness that Jesus lives up to that they were going to be all of the prophets and foreshadowing of hey let the people know that there's a messiah coming like they were basically the

ones that were given and blessed everything in order to have the Messiah come and take place and yet they are the ones who reject him you see Jesus loves the builders and he hates that the builders have rejected him it Grieves him Romans 9 lets us see The Grieving Heart of Jesus because even Paul shares the same grieving spirit for his people that did not see it and this is where we're going to close with Romans chapter 9 starting verse one Paul says I'm speaking the truth in Christ I am not lying he says my conscience Bears me witness in the holy spirit that I

have great sorrow and unceasing unceasing anguish in my heart so in this moment what Jesus is experiencing when he is approaching Jerusalem and looking at the city knowing that they are going to reject him and the ultimate point of their rejection is that they kill him and they crucify him Paul is sharing this same sorrow and unceasing anguish in his heart and in verse three he says I wish for I could wish that myself were cut off in a curs from Christ for the sake of my brothers my Kinsmen according to the flesh which like I just still like I don't know that I could

ever say that I mean like that's just that's so sorrowful but at the same time it shows you how much love that the the empathy of Christ when it is overwhelmed our heart and the evangelism of Christ when it is so great that because you treasure him so much that if you see someone who's not not treasuring him that you were able to say I actually wish that I could be cut off from you Jesus if it meant that this person gets to receive you as their greatest treasure like that blows my mind that Paul says something like that and I think that's the same

shared anguish that Jesus is experiencing when he is looking at the Jews and he is saying you're rejecting me because ultimately you're rejecting salvation you're rejecting what brings you life you're rejecting your own eventual Resurrection there Israelites and to them belong the adoption to them belongs the glory the covenants the giving of the law the worship and the promises to them belong the Patriarchs and from their race according to the flesh is the Christ who is God over all blessed forever amen but it is not as though the word of God has failed for not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel and

not all are children of Abraham because they are simply his offspring but through Isaac shall your Offspring be named this means that it is not the children Children of the flesh just merely bloodline who are the children of God but the children of the promise are counted as Offspring and so In This Moment Jesus is having a real human experience because you got to remember he's all God and he's also all man and this is a moment as a man and I believe in sharing with the same anguish as Paul where Jesus being a Jew is coming to his countrymen and In This Moment is

expressing his anguish as a man that not all of you are going to believe not all of you are going to know why I'm here and what I'm doing not all of you are going to know that this triumphal entry is actually me just being the lamb led to the slaughter for your sins but you rejected and that breaks his heart it Grieves his spirit and he weeps but he's able to push past that and he's able to then move and continue on in the triumphal entry into Jerusalem because he knows that there is also the promise of the spirit of God that from every

tribe to tongue and Nation whether Jew or Greek which is basically anyone else that's not Jew that there will be people when they see and hear what Christ has come and accomplished they'll believe and they will not reject it and so that's where he then is able to get to saying things like for the joy that is set before me I Endure the cross I Endure the cross and he rejoices in it this is a triumphal entry but this is also not a moment where really they're celebrating a win but they're actually if they knew what they were rejoicing in they would we they would

be rejoicing in the loss of a friend who's about to lay down his life for them that's what Palm Sunday really is all about that's what the triumphal entry is all about and that's why Jesus is grieving and it should be a joyful grieving because what we're seeing here in this moment is Jesus coming to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves he's coming to accomplish salvation for us and though their praising and rejoicing is a bit premature In This Moment it's still cause for rejoicing because we're able to see on the backside of it why Jesus has set his face to Jerusalem

why he's coming and why he's there at Passover because as they're all bringing their temporary animals to be sacrificed he becomes as Hebrews says the once and for all sacrifice for the sins of the world and he lays his life down let's pray again father we thank you we thank you for your plan your Plan of Redemption we thank you that as we walk through this book of Luke that every time we unpack each of these stories we thank you that you allow us to be able to see hey here's what I was doing there here's what my plan was here they didn't see it

yet but you have the Holy Spirit and so you get to see it as we walk through this it pleases you to reveal your son to us and to reveal the that you had and in this moment though the people were premature and their rejoicing of the king who's to come there are still great rejoicing to be had because we see that Jesus is the substitute sacrifice on his way to Jerusalem the Lamb of God as John the Baptist said who comes to take away the sins of the world and so God thank you for this triumphal entry thank you for the grieving of Jesus

as he approaches his impending death we thank you because as we know as it leads to his resurrection that becomes the first fruit of all of our resurrections it's where we have been longing for life actually find life and we become satisfied we become satisfied it's in Jesus name we pray amen
